Fulfilled Prophecy: A Strong Apologetic, Pt. 1

In many ways and in many Old Testament passages God told Israel how He would deal with them and what His ultimate plan for them would be. God spelled it all out in Leviticus 26. They should have known but they still stumbled repeatedly as a blind man would.

For God to fulfill His promises to Israel He must preserve Israel throughout their dispersion, and through two millennia.

As ethnic populations go in today’s world the Jews are a small number. Their number is just about equal to the margin of error in the estimated population of China, about 14 million people.

Oil or Spoil? The Middle East Again

There is a question asked in Ezekiel 38:13 that has Sheba and Dedan, oil rich Arabian Peninsula countries, asking if the Magog coalition is coming to take a spoil. Could the spoil be Middle East oil? Could it be Israeli oil and gas?

The joke is told by Jewish people that when Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt he should have turned right instead of left to Canaan. If they had turned right they would possess the oil fields of the Arabian Peninsula.

It was always thought that Israel had no oil deposits. However, in recent years, even as recently as 2011, reports are that Israel has potentially as much oil as all the known reserves in Saudi Arabia.

Mormons Welcome Questions

Did you know that Mormons welcome your questions? It is a good, easy way to get them to think for themselves.

Mormons (members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints [LDS]) believe that they can perform proxy baptisms for the dead to permit the dead to progress in the afterlife. This is the reason they collect genealogical information.

Celestial marriage is a marriage for time and eternity that is performed in Mormon temples. These two doctrines are considered fundamental in Mormon belief.

Nugget #4

Verse 5 of Genesis 12 says Abram had “acquired people.” Jewish translators suggest this refers to proselytizing, that people converted and left with Abram.

Arrives in Shechem

Abram passed through the land to the site of Shechem, at the oak of Moreh. (At that time the Canaanites were in the land.)  (Genesis 12:6, CSB)

Abram: Little Nuggets, 1-3

A ‘nugget’ can describe a small but valuable piece of information or a tidbit of wisdom.

This is the history of Abram

These are the family records of Terah. Terah fathered Abram, Nahor, and Haran, and Haran fathered Lot. Haran died in his native land, in Ur of the Chaldeans, during his father Terah’s lifetime.

Abram and Nahor took wives: Abram’s wife was named Sarai, and Nahor’s wife was named Milcah. She was the daughter of Haran, the father of both Milcah and Iscah.

Who Shuns Whom?

Jehovah’s Witnesses commonly practice the shunning of those who have left the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. There are varying degrees of shunning, and for varying reasons, but there is one constant: the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society Organization, aka the Jehovah’s Witnesses, propagate the practice of shunning among their members, and have for a minimum of 65 years (Nov. 15, 1952 Watchtower, Questions from Readers).

Spiritual Abuse: The Tyrant Rides a Tiger

In high control religious systems everyone plays his or her appointed role. When someone breaks out of their role they fulfill another purpose within the system, an object lesson, which will be used to strengthen the control of the leadership.

These players are called the Tyrant, the Henchmen, the Silent Sheep, the Wounded and the Dissident. If you have been in an abusive high control group, think of who modeled the role in your own experience. It needs to be said here that the second through fifth roles can be the same person but at different stages, or times. This will be explained later.

Spiritual Abuse Recovery Workbook

In the interactions I had afterward with others who experienced abuse, I learned how to help the wounded recover. I met with scores of people who were confused by the hurt they experienced.

Between my own experiences and research, I wrote many articles. It was then that I realized I had the content for a workbook on spiritual abuse recovery. A workbook was what I wanted to produce. Because it would be a practical tool for both the individual and a small group recovery, or support group.

Apostolic Fathers/Ante Nicene Fathers

Apostolic Fathers/Ante Nicene Fathers

The Apostolic Fathers were early Christians who either knew the Apostles personally or were closely connected to them. They're a smaller group within the wider group called the Ante-Nicene Fathers, who lived before the Council of Nicaea in AD 325.

The Apostolic Fathers were in the immediate and closely succeeding couple of generations following the Apostles, whose writings were from about from 80-180 AD. They lived in the first and second centuries after Christ. The Apostles were the original 11 of the 12 Disciples (learners, students) of Jesus plus Matthias who replaced Judas when he betrayed Jesus. They became the Apostles (sent out ones, missionaries) roughly upon Jesus’ death and resurrection.

Jesus, the First Creation of Jehovah?

The Watchtower Society teaches that Jesus is a creature. They do not believe He is eternal, almighty, or worthy of worship (obeisance, yes; worship, no).

Here are some very useful questions about their views:

1) Why do Jehovah’s Witnesses teach that Jehovah directly created ONLY ONE THING, Michael the Archangel (aka Jesus), and that Michael then created all OTHER things (United in Worship, page 29)?

Bodily Resurrection and Jehovah’s Witnesses, Part 2

Last week I addressed the resurrection of Jesus body. The Watchtower Society denies a physical resurrection and points out instances of Jesus not being recognized in His post-resurrection appearances. However, in the context of each appearance the reason is evident. The most obvious example is in Luke 24, the account of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus.

There is a better beginning topic: the bodily resurrection of Jesus. We must let them know that this is of FIRST IMPORTANCE in our discussion so I would start with I Corinthians 15:1, 4.

Latter-Day Saints’ (Mormons’) Test of Truth

Mormon missionaries have challenged millions of people over the years to read the Book of Mormon and in prayer ask God if it is true.

The missionaries will say that a yes answer will be evidenced by a “burning in the bosom,” an emotional and spiritual feeling. This is a subjective test of truth.

Though Mormons test truth by feelings, Joseph Fielding Smith, the tenth President of the LDS church, gave an objective criterion for determining the truth or fallacy of Mormonism.

Mormonism: Who Is Persecuting Whom?

Mormons say that Christians persecute them by saying Mormonism is a cult, not Christian, that is a false religion. If this is persecution then why … do Mormons persecute Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians, and all other Christian denominations by saying these churches are “all wrong” and their creeds are an “abomination” in the sight of God? (See the Pearl of Great Price [PGP], Joseph Smith – History, 1:9, 19)

Joseph Smith Said THAT?

So, we talked about some things like why she visited our church. She said she “just wanted to hear about Jesus rather than Joseph” (Smith). So, I mentioned her History of the Church books and asked if I could show her something from it. She said yes, so I got volume 6 and turned to pages 408 and 409. And I read her this statement by Joseph Smith:

God is in the still small voice. In all these affidavits, indictments, it is all of the devil–all corruption. Come on! ye prosecutors! ye false swearers! All hell, boil over! Ye burning mountains, roll down your lava! for I will come out on the top at last. I have more to boast of than ever any man had. I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam. A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I. The followers of Jesus ran away from Him; but the Latter-day Saints never ran away from me yet. …

Christians in a Hostile Land

Besides the effect of secularization and moral relativism we also face the unprecedented growth of alternative religions competing with Christianity. Americans in the past held to a Christian consensus, or worldview. Even the non-Christians in America would agree that the God of Christianity was the God they would put their faith in if they were going to be religious. Even though there were cults and alternative religions from the early years of our nation, they were extremely small as a percentage of the population and had little influence.

Since immigration has become a wide-open door, both legal and illegal, we find ourselves in the company of immigrants who bring their native faith with them. Many of these immigrants come from countries that are non-Christian. They have added their numbers to the religious pluralism that has grown exponentially in just the last few decades.

Americans, on the other hand, have walked away from many of the basic tenets of Christianity as well as church attendance …

Did Jehovah Only Create One Thing, Jesus?

I wrote a tract decades ago with questions for Jehovah’s Witnesses. They are completely unanswerable within the Watchtower’s doctrinal beliefs.

You can ask these questions of a Jehovah’s Witness and your conversation can end there. He will give you words back but those words will be a dodge, an answer that misses the point of the question or an offer to get back to you later.

It doesn’t matter at this point because now the question is planted in his mind and he will need an answer for himself.

Jehovah’s Throne in the Pleiades?

Did you know that the Watchtower used to teach that Jehovah’s throne was located in the star system Pleiades, and more specifically on the star Alcyone:

And if we go back to the date which the Pyramid [‘The Great Pyramid of Jeezeh’ in Egypt (found just prior to the title page in the book cited) which this writer understands is the great pyramid at Giza just outside of Cairo] gives itself, and look for what that finger pointed to at midnight, we find a far sublimer indication. Science has at last discovered that the sun is not a dead center, with planets wheeling about it, but itself stationary. It is now ascertained that the sun also is in motion, carrying with it its splendid retinue of comets, planets, its satellites and theirs, around some other and vastly mightier center.
